AL 2 | Round Three Match Report

RESERVES TEAM

We came out of the blocks firing on Saturday and were looking very sharp creating lots of attacks. Trickey opened the scoring with a contender for goal of the year chipping their goalie from just after halfway! Towards the end of first half though we dropped our intensity however and let them back in the game. We did well to hold off a number of their attacks to go into halftime 1-0 up and knew we had to pick up the pace again.

Second half was quite even to start with and it was through a penalty that we let them back in the game. This seemed to fire us back up though and we got back another trade mark goal from Pasc. We continued to press and sure enough another came this time through Deano with a strong finish. We finished the game really well, dealing with anything that came through the back and setting up a number of chances to finish. A really gritty win I thought we had to work hard for and like last week, we came from behind to get the win which shows a lot about our character this year. 2 wins in a row and holding top 4 position.

FIRSTS TEAM

On Saturday the firsts went up against a familiar Beacon team, who we knew played very physical and would be tough searching for their first win. They had a couple of quick guys up front creating havoc, only to be diffused by our brick wall backline – Nico, Bas, Issy and Sheldon not letting anything through and blocking a number shots. Javy and Lachy I thought started to control the game very well towards the end of the half and sure enough just before halftime we got 2 quick goals thanks to Jellis and some awesome through balls through.

We were wary of them coming out strong 2nd half, however in the end it was our fitness and experience that ran through them. Some amazing work by Javy in the middle to set up and score (trademark dribble and finish). Lachy with a bullet pen. Great work by our wings, Oosty, Jordan, Mooks didn’t stop running and supplying balls up front. Our wing backs, Davis and Nico also went in so strong to every challenge and shut down everything. Up front I thought Jase, Jell and Jez (Triple Js) were working really well running off each other and creating chances all of the second half. Best part of the win, even at 6/7 nil we didn’t drop the intensity and discipline. A very very strong win.

We need to make sure that we continue to work hard and stay focused on the next match. We will face many more difficult matches this year and our results early on will fire up our opposition to play harder against us. We have St Augustines this weekend and given last year’s humbling against them, let’s make sure that we turn up against this Saturday ready to go!
