AL2 Match Report | Round 9

RESERVES TEAM On Sunday we played another local derby against our old foe Forry! We started the game really well and first half we controlled a lot of the possession. Intensity was great, we won alot of ball in the middle and created chances. Some very good saves from their goalkeeper denied us, until a pin point perfect cross from Trickey found a leaping Mick Maiolo header to score! We went into halftime 1-0 up with energy high Second half again started strong, however Forry got back into the game with a lucky shot into the top corner. To be honest I think this deflated us a bit and Forry picked up more energy. We found ourselves defending for a lot more of the second half, and we need to be commended for making some great last man tackles and clearances off the line – Gabe to name one of the few! We finished the game square at 1-1 picking up another valuable point as we keep pushing to top 4. Let’s lift again and get another win against Beacon this week! FIRSTS TEAM Both teams took the field and started the match with genuine intent and ferocity. Players across both teams were keen to win – there was history and pride on the line and a competitive edge that was fierce. We held possession across the park and dominated the match early with quality play across the entire group. Despite dominating possession, we couldn’t find a way through with a number of shots hitting the woodwork, sailing just wide or rolling towards the keeper … Unfortunately, during one of our attacks mid-way through the first half, we moved well up the pitch and left ourselves exposed on the counter. Forest moved the ball through the mids and down the left side quickly. A quality whipped ball across the goal and their striker headed the ball straight into the back of the net. We kept pushing but couldn’t find a breakthrough, leaving the first half 1-0. A rousing half-time team talk fired up the team and we peppered the Forest goal with a number of shots from every angle. A swift corner from Javey and the onrushing attack overwhelmed the Forest backline and their keeper who hesitated. Step up Brett with a massive header, finding the desperately needed equaliser. The game started flowing a lot more end to end with chances at both ends. Halfway through the second half, Bas made a solid tackle and won the ball back just inside our own half. He then set on a quality run straight through the middle … single minded in approach, he unleashed a belter from 30 yards out that raced straight past the oncoming keeper, hit the post, ricocheted back across the face of goal and was cleared by the retreating Forest backline. With 10 minutes to go, our leading goal scorer headed in the winner from another set piece to wrap up bragging rights and the much needed three points. #ROUND9 #BELFOR #SHOWYOURCOLOURS #DERBYDAY #LOCALBRAGGINGRIGHTS
