RESERVES TEAM
On Saturday we faced our old foe Forry who were searching for a win to get a top 4 spot. We had a shaky start, letting in 2 quick goals before we even got going – however credit to us, we kept pushing and had a lot of the possession in the first half. We had a lot of shots that just didn’t go in – some good saves from their keeper too. Until finally Mick hit the ball sweetly on the edge of the box to get us back in the game. There was some great defending too at the back – Gabe and Partsy to note for their goal line clearances! Halftime finished 2-1
Second half we let things go. As has been the story a few games this season this was our undoing and we lost our intensity, shape and control. Some lapses in defending and marking allowed some runs through onto goal which they put us away. It was a disappointing way to finish and I really don’t think it reflected our season. We learn from it – put it behind us now in the off season and regroup again for next year
A big thankyou to everyone for this season – I had a lot of fun this year and I hope everyone enjoyed playing football in what I thought was quite a tough comp. Thanks for your time, your energy and commitment this year, it’s what made it such a an enjoyable year and fun team to be apart of!
We had a really good group again, a lot of laughs on and off this field which is the main thing, whilst playing some really good football at times! I hope we can all return again next year – learn from this season and improve again!
FIRSTS TEAM
Saturday’s match was as massively hyped and with two venue changes, the match was delicately poised for a brutal battle. Everyone was pumped and ready for a big match and with added support from “Family Day”, it made it even more special! Both teams burst out of the blocks with a number of robust challenges that Sergio Ramos would have been proud of.
A relatively quiet first half saw a 0-0 score line at the half. Unfortunately, for us, Forest took first blood in the second half with a goal mouth scramble and shot that bypassed 5 defenders in the box. There’s also a rumor that the ball went through Isaac’s legs. One goal was followed by a second, despite the fact that we held the majority of possession and were hammering their defences.
Eventually, we clawed one goal back in the 85th minute, through a wonderful close range effort from Jason Sorbara. If we had another 10 minutes, we would have surely had an equalizer, but the referee blew his whistle and the game was over.
Tough to take a loss on the last day of the season, but the quality of play and relentless attitude will stand us in good stead for the finals series. A fantastic season lads. Now onto the semi-finals!
