Off the back of the exciting game of the week before, the AL3s boys turned up to our 3rd game of the season in high spirits. We played St Augustine’s B at their home ground down at Passmore. A few big players had returned and early signs were positive as we had the run of the play early on. We had a couple of significant chances however as has been the theme so far this season we lacked the finishing touch to go ahead. A lucky goal from the Augustine’s team off a deflected header from a long throw shifted the momentum slightly back in their favour, and they went on to make it 2-0 after a slightly contentious goal stood from a cross where the ball appeared to be out slid through the defenders and across to the back post where it was tapped in.
The skipper James Trickey provided a huge boost for the lads when he smashed in a great free kick from 30+ yards out. It was 2-1 at half time and we had wrestled back the momentum. A formation change at half time boosted the attacking go forward and again we had a few chances but couldn’t put them away. St Augs scored once more with only 10 minutes to go after some nice play caught us out on the counter-attack, making it 3-1. Despite our efforts there was to be no thriller this week. Big shout-out has to go to Jordan in goals who saved us multiple times.
