After a great season, we finished second on the table by 0.25 of a point. The girls were keen to get revenge and take out the 1 v 2 FINAL Game.
Unfortunately, we started slow conceding a goal from a corner and a penalty for a handball within the first 20 minutes. This left us 2-0 down. But in true Raiders spirit, the girls rallied and started to play the way they have all season. Opportunities came our way and eventually a great run by Renee Noon into the Curly box saw her taken down and a penalty awarded. Britt Rollason stepped up and slotted the ball into the net 2-1. BTH was now fired up and started to take control of the midfield and with half time approaching we won another corner; A brilliant cross by Britt was met with a towering header from Bec Cogan (Captain) 2-2 game on.
The second half started cagey with both teams not wanting to concede the first goal. It was a superb strike from Britt Rollason which broke the deadlock 2-3, and she netted again 10 minutes later with a quick burst, leaving the Curly defender and placing the ball past the keeper 2-4 - a wonderful hat-trick for Britt. The girls were buzzing now. We started to over-run the Curly girls. Our holding midfield of Sam, Vanessa and Emily worked hard all through the game along with our defensive line of Bec, Maddie, Liv, Hanna and Jas which were very composed and solid after the shaky start.
But we weren’t finished at 4 goals. Our attaching line of Britt, Dee, Gabby, Renee, Leesh and Ryles, who have lead the way with 54 goals for the year, completed the scoring with a great move from the left and finished with a half volley from Ryles to seal the match 2-5. Brave Goal Keeping from Abi Powell kept Curly to 2 goals and helped the team to concede only eleven goals all year.
Massive thanks to all our borrowed players this year; From the WU16/1 team (Ryleigh, Sophie, Gemma and Milly), from the WU18/1 (Niamh, Emily, Abi Powell, Ash and Ella), WAL2 (Ella & Jas) and W040 (Sarah, Dani, Sturmey and Lynda). They all contributed to the team success this year and congratulations to Britt who received WAL1 Player of the Year.
